Is Your Child Ready For Preschool

Parents know that children do not always follow the experts when it comes to physical and intellectual development. As the closest observers of their individual child's temperament and abilities, parents are the best judges on whether a child is ready for an academic preschool program.

An academic preschool program differs from a daycare program in that it focuses on early learning skills, pre-reading readiness and linguistic development. While there is time for free play, preschool is a learning rather than care giving environment. In past times, preschool programs were designed for children who stayed home with a parent. Children attended preschool two or three mornings a week, spending the rest of the time at home. Today, because so many parents work, preschools have been restructured to full-day programs.

However, many children in the two to three year old age group may not be emotionally mature enough for a full-day academic experience. Younger children frequently get tired and upset after too much stimulation and many still need an afternoon nap. In this case, parents should seek a program that offers academic experiences in the morning and play time, naptime and other, less structured, activities for the rest of the day. <
At three, the age most children begin preschool, children have developed the ability to speak in short sentences. At this age, adults can understand about three quarters of the words children say. A functional level of verbal ability can help a child more easily navigate preschool as he or she can ask for help, to use the toilet, or whatever else they may need.

Most schools require that children attending preschool be toilet trained. The consistent ability to use the bathroom during the day is an important part of preschool readiness. While teachers are accepting of accidents, they are teachers and not daycare providers and can't be expected to change diapers. Additionally, children should know how to pull down and pull up their undergarments and to wash and dry their own hands.

Children should also have mastered basic life skills before beginning preschool. Snacks are definitely served at preschool and often lunch is served as well. Your child should be able to manage finger foods and use a regular cup without a spout in order to manage preschool meals. Also, they should be able to put on their own shoes and coat although teachers at this level fully expect to help with buttons and zippers.

Kauai is the oldest and most northern of the Hawaiian Island chain. Its lush tropical beauty has earned it the nickname the "Garden Island." From the air it looks like an emerald cone rising out of the ocean. This thirty-three by twenty-five mile island is covered with acres of lush rain forests, waterfalls, and breathtaking gardens. Here are only a few of the hundreds of sights and activities you will have to choose from while you are on island. This is only a tiny taste of what Kauai has to offer.

On the northern end of Kauai is Kilauea Lighthouse, which was built in 1913 and was in use until 1976. It is a picturesque landmark perched on a bluff. Well worth a visit. Visitors may not climb the lighthouse, but self-guided tours of the area are available. Adjacent to the lighthouse is the 200-acre Kilauea Point Wildlife Refuge on Moku'ae'ae Island. A must visit for bird lovers.

Would you like to see the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific"? Or so nicknamed by Mark Twain. Then you must see the spectacular Waimea Canyon. It is the largest canyon in the Pacific at ten miles long, two miles wide and 35 hundred feet deep. The canyon is marked with layers, each layer marking an eruption and lava flow. There are several vantage points from which to enjoy the canyon, but the one you must not miss is the Waimea Canyon Lookout .

Po'ipu Beach Park is the perfect place for family fun. It is Kauai's most popular beach for swimming, snorkeling, boogie boarding, picnicking and having just plain fun. It has restrooms, showers, shady areas and lifeguards. Po'ipu has it all.

If you want to see lush native flora and fauna as well as exotic plants, then you will not want to miss Smith's Tropical Paradise located just 15 miles from the Radisson Kauai Beach Resort along the Waimea River. On this 30-acre complex, not only will you see beautiful manicured grounds, but you will also have the opportunity to see villages of the many cultures that represent Kauai. Tram tours are available as well as weekly luaus.

The spectacular Na Pali Coast is an awe-inspiring sight to see. Towers of rock climb from the sea and lush vegetation devours the landscape. There are only three ways to witness its beauty: from the air, by sea, or by taking a very strenuous hike known as the Kalalau Trail. This hike is only for the adventuresome and should only be attempted by the serious hiker. If hiking isn't for you, you can still enjoy the thrill of its beauty with one of the ocean tours or helicopter tours. If you want to see breathtaking beauty that is like something from another world, you won't be disappointed.

Adware scare you much? This gremlin can get anywhere

Adware is on of those things that most internet users don't even think about until its too late. More often than not the majority of us do not even realise the existence of spyware until the damage has been done. Each and every day thousands of hidden applications are trying to gain access to computers all over the internet.

The amazing thing is that only a small percentage of people protect themselves from this kind of adware parasite and most only seek protection once the damage has been done. There are many ways that spyware and adware can take advantage of those of us who tend to be lacking in the area of computer security. Most times it is just our internet usage details that these nasties are after but at the other end of the scale there are some adware programs that are acting in a completely sinister manner.

If we all treated our computers like our bank accounts then you would not even be reading this article. The sad fact is we do not and every day there are thousands of people that are putting their private details at risk. None of us should have anything in our computers that we do not want and did not willingly invite but I would bet my last paycheque that anyone reading this article has a few unwanted extras lurking in the depths of their P.C's.

It is absolutely essential that you be very aware of the possibilities with the latest of today's scumware. If you are not willing to purchase some internet protection on the grounds that you might be infected then you should at least take advantage of an online scan. These scans are free and easily accessed so to be honest it would be sheer madness to ignore their existence and simply carry on regardless.

Run a free adware scan and the end result will be you are either spyware free or do in fact have a computer stowaway nestling inside your computer. If you are adware free then you can carry on without a care in the world, Your money will still be in your pocket and your computer will be running safely. If on the other hand you do find an intrusion then you can simply spend a little of your cash and rid the gremlin from your computer.

There are many free adware help sites all over the internet and it is very easy to get the latest news on all the recent adware outbreaks. Listen to the experts and weigh up what you have to lose.

If your computer is clean then a free scan will cost you nothing.

If it is infected then just how much do you stand to lose should your data be accessed?
